Indo-Finnish Winter School on Additive Manufacturing (IFAM 2024), IIT Delhi, India

I am an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Delhi, with over a decade of experience in Laser Material Processing and additive manufacturing. My academic journey began at IIT Kharagpur, where I completed my B.Tech (Honours), M.Tech, and Ph.D. Following that, I had the privilege of serving as a Senior Scientific Officer at IIT Kharagpur, contributing to several indigenous technology developments. One of my key contributions was leading the development of an indigenously built metal additive manufacturing system, which featured real-time process monitoring and control capabilities. I was also part of many exciting projects such as indigenous development of laser-assisted cold spray and laser shock deposition systems. My research focuses on understanding the mechanical behavior of additively manufactured parts under dynamic loading conditions, such as fatigue, and advancing online process monitoring techniques to ensure consistent and reliable part quality. Beyond these areas, I am deeply invested in exploring other innovative applications of laser material processing. I am always open to collaborative opportunities to advance the understanding of laser-based manufacturing processes and translate research into impactful industrial applications.

I strongly encourage undergraduate students to consider research as a career path. The possibilities in fields like Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing are boundless, and lasers open doors to a world of exciting opportunities. This isn’t limited to academic research; it’s also a fertile ground for startups. We need motivated individuals to join hands and drive this innovation forward.
